Instructor: Quinn

Welcome back!  I have had an incredibly busy summer, but I am excited for this school year to get underway.  I am thrilled about the new technology we have at our disposal and hope to use it when ever possible.
Literature is the art of written work.  It is more than just the ability to read.  We will examine how writers write, why they write and the different genre that make up their work.  Resources for literature class will be obtained from the literature book (now on line), novels, and outside reading materials.  Most assessments will come from project based work, oral presentations, and writing assignments.

Class Announcements
Demerit Card

A demerit system will be implemented in the language arts room. Each student will be given a green demerit card at the beginning of each quarter. If an infraction occurs within the classroom, a demerit will be given. After five demerits a student will be issued a half hour detention with me in the classroom and a yellow demerit card will be issued. After five demerits on the yellow card, a Wednesday detention will be issued, and the student will be given a red demerit card. After five demerits on the red card, a Saturday School will be issued. If a student continues to receive demerits, a conference will be held which will include the student, parents, Mr. Garrison and myself. Mr. Garrison will determine what disciplinary action will be taken at that point. For those students who receive no demerits in a quarter, incentives will be given.

AR Points

AR points are included as a grade on each quarter grade card (this was stated on the syllabus each student received and brought home at the beginning of the school year).  Students were to have fifteen points the first quarter and are to have thirty points this second quarter.  There are several students who have not reached the fifteen points.  Likewise, there are a handful who have not attempted to take a test.  Obviously, this will affect literature/writing grades at the end of the quarter.  If you are curious as to how many AR points your student has, please contact me, and I will be happy to get those numbers to you.
